Celebrates 20th Anniversary Oct. 24

The
founder of The University of Memphis' Center for Research
on Women will return to deliver the keynote address for the
Center's 20th anniversary celebration Thursday, Oct. 24. Dr.
Bonnie Thornton Dill will discuss "Race and Gender in
Higher Education: Reflections on the Past 20 Years" at
7 p.m. at The U of M Holiday Inn, 3700 Central Ave. The free
talk is open to the public.
Dill
was a professor of sociology at The U of M, and served as
director of CROW from 1982-88. She now is director of the
Consortium on Race, Gender and Ethnicity at the University
of Maryland and heads the research area "Gender Studies,
Race and Economic Well-Being." Dill is an affiliate faculty
with the departments of sociology, Afro-American studies and
American studies.
University
President Shirley Raines will speak, as will Ruby Bright,
director of the Women's Foundation for a Greater Memphis,
and Gayle Rose, a philanthropist who oversees the Rose Family
Foundation and chairs the board of the Women's Foundation.
