Guest Speaker Will Discuss Origins of Civil Rights Movement Oct. 17

A Stanford University professor will explore the international origins of the civil rights movement Thursday, Oct. 17, at The University of Memphis. Dr. J. Douglas McAdam will lecture at 4 p.m. in the Mitchell Hall Auditorium. The talk, part of the Benjamin Hooks Lecture Series, is free and open to the public.

McAdam is a professor of sociology at Stanford. Among his areas of study are social movements, political sociology, and comparative and historical sociology. McAdam's publications include Freedom Summer and Political Process and the Development of Black Insurgency, 1930-1970.
