M Festival Celebrates Double Reed Music Nov. 8 & 9

Guest
artists Richard Killmer of Yale University's Eastman School
of Music and Richard Svoboda of the Boston Symphony Orchestra
will perform at The University of Memphis' second annual Double
Reed Festival Friday and Saturday, Nov. 8 and 9. Killmer,
oboe, and Svoboda, bassoon, will perform at 7:30 both evenings
in Harris Concert Hall.
On
the program are works by Poulenc, Elliot, Greig and Sammartini.
The concerts will feature performances by Rudi E. Scheidt
School of Music faculty members Andrea Gross Hixon, oboe,
Pat Hoy and Dale Clark, bassoon, and Lauren Schack Clark,
piano; The U of M Symphony Orchestra, The U of M Bassoon Ensemble
and Collegium Musicum.
The
guest artists will give master classes Saturday beginning
at 9 a.m. The Memphis Woodwind Quintet will perform at 3:30
that afternoon in Harris Concert Hall.
Admission
is free to all events. Sponsors of the festival are the Double
Reed Society, the Woodwind Society and the Student Activities
