In
response to this summer's power outages in Memphis and nationwide,
the Engineering Technology Department of the University of
Memphis Herff College of Engineering and MLGW will sponsor
a conference on Electrical Power Quality and Reliability Tuesday,
Oct. 28, from 12:30 to 5 p.m. in the Engineering Auditorium.
The
conference is free and open to the public. There is a $15
charge for those who want to earn Continuing Education Units
or Professional Development Hours. The focus will be on what's
being done to ensure clean, reliable, reasonably priced power
in a time when we are becoming increasingly dependent on electrical
power.
Nationally-recognized
speakers will discuss electrical power measurement, control
and optional sources of power. Presenters will include Ross
Ignall, systems applications manager for Dranetz-BMI; Marty
Guilfoos of Alstrom Transmission and Distribution; Russ Fletcher
of Computer Environment Corp.; Tony Vitali of Liebert Corp;
and Larry Hill of Thompson Power.
Those
interested in attending are encouraged to pre-register by
e-mail to Robert Scoff, assistant professor of engineering
technology, at rscoff@memphis.edu. For more information, call
