The Math, Assistive Technology, and Reading Program (MATR)
at the University of Memphis will offer a one-day training
session for educators on Friday, Oct. 22. The session will
be held in the Rose Theatre and will run from 9:30 a.m. to
4:30 p.m.
MATR
is a professional development program designed to help educators
effectively teach reading and math to special-needs students
in a general classroom setting.
Working
in teams of four (a general teacher, a special education teacher,
a teacher's assistant, and a curriculum or literacy leader),
participating educators will learn how to use, and how to
train others to use, strategies of inclusion and tools that
promote the independence of students with disabilities.
The
MATR premise is that all students benefit from the incorporation
of inclusive strategies and assistive technology in learning
reading and math.
MATR
training will be held periodically through May 2005. For more
information on the training and how to schedule training sessions,
call 901-678-1740.
