Professor Will Discuss World Music with U of M Honors Students

Timothy
D. Taylor, an associate professor of musicology at UCLA, will
present a lecture entitled "Global Pop: The Rise of World
Music" to first-year students enrolled in the University
of Memphis Honors Program's new Global Challenge course.
The
lecture will be Thursday, Oct. 21, during the regular class
time, 11:20 a.m.-12:45 p.m., in the Michael D. Rose Theatre.
The public is invited to the free lecture
Taylor
is the author of Global Pop: World Music, World Markets,
Strange Sounds: Music, Technology and Culture, and
numerous articles on popular and classical music.
He
is currently writing a book on 500 years of music and difference
(to be published by Duke University Press) and a history of
music used in advertising from early radio to the present.
