The 2005 Works in Progress Symposium (WIPS) at the University of Memphis will be held Wednesday, Oct. 19, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the University Center, Rooms 310 F, G, H, and J. The symposium gives undergraduates the opportunity to present their current research ideas and preliminary results to a panel of faculty members. Each student will give a 15-minute presentation followed by a question-and-answer session.
For students to participate in WIPS, several requirements must be met. The work presented must be fully developed and presentable by April 2006; students must receive permission from their faculty mentors; and they must provide abstracts and prospectuses with their completed applications.
WIPS is the first step in applying to attend the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR), which will be held in April 2006 at the University of North Carolina at Asheville. Last year nine students represented the U of M at NCUR.
Applications are available in the University Honors Program office, 204 Scates Hall. The deadline is Oct. 13.
