Success in Job Interviews Will Be Topic of Talk Oct. 17

Using concepts from his book Get Hired! Strategies to Ace the Interview, organizational industrial psychologist Dr. Paul C. Green will discuss how job candidates can prepare for an interview.  The free presentation will be held October 17 at noon in Room 226 of the University of Memphis’ Ned R. McWherter Library.

Green, a U of M alumnus, has more than 35 years of experience in training and consulting. His primary areas of professional practice were assessment of job candidates and coaching managers in how to conduct a job search. His interviewing technique, “Behavioral Interviewing,” is used by 40 percent of employers in the United States.

Green will emphasize preparation for a behavioral interview, which uses past event questions such as “Describe a time on your last job when you had to cope with a difficult situation.”  He will demonstrate how to make “skill-benefit” statements, which being with “I am able to …”
