The annual Works in Progress Symposium (WIPS) at the University of Memphis will be held Wednesday, October 24, from 1 to 4:30 p.m. in the Panhellenic Building.
Applications are available in the Honors Program office in Room 204, Scates Hall or online at: http://honors.memphis.edu/wipsapplicationpacket.pdf.
The deadline for applying is October 17.
Sponsored by the Honors Program, the symposium gives undergraduates the opportunity to present their current research ideas and preliminary results to a panel of faculty members.
WIPS also prepares students to attend the annual National Conference on Undergraduate Research, which will be held next April at Salisbury University in Maryland.
Presenters are grouped into three broad categories: social science and professions, science and engineering, and arts and the humanities. Students in each category will give a 15-minute presentation followed by a five-minute discussion period.
Students participating in WIPS must meet the following requirements: the work presented must be fully developed and presentable by April 2008, they must receive permission from their faculty mentors, and they must each provide an abstract and prospectus with their completed application.
More information is available from Colton Cockrum, assistant director of the Honors Program, by phone at 678-2690 or via email at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
