|Academic Affairs Colloquium Oct. 10 to Focus on Hazards and Preparedness

"Hazards and Preparedness" will be the focus of the fall 2005 Faculty Research Colloquium at the University of Memphis. The event will be Monday, Oct. 10, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Zone at the FedEx Institute of Technology.
Sessions will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 and 2:45 to 3:45. Topics will include natural hazards and Memphis, the social and economic impact of hazards, and mitigation strategies. Participating faculty will include Dr. Christine Powell and Gary Patterson of the Center for Earthquake Research and Information (CERI), Dr. Arleen Hill of Earth Sciences, Dr. John Gnuschke of the Sparks Bureau of Business and Economic Research, and Richard Janikowski of Criminology and Criminal Justice.
A panel discussion on the U of M's response to Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath will follow from 4 to 4:30 p.m., also in the Zone.
