For release: Sept. 14, 2005
For press information, contact

Families affected by Hurricane Katrina who are now living in the Memphis area, and whose children under the age of three were receiving early intervention services in Alabama, Louisiana or Mississippi, may contact the office of the Tennessee Early Intervention System (TEIS) at the University of Memphis for help. The phone number is 901-678-4655.

TEIS is a grant-funded program operated through the U of M's College of Education. It works with families of children under the age of three who have developmental delays or a diagnosed condition that is likely to cause developmental delays.

Approximately 1,000 children from two regions in Louisiana were receiving early intervention services before the hurricane struck. That number does not include children from other regions of Louisiana, Mississippi or Alabama.
