You can stop this tragic loss through our professional development training for mentors and coaches of new teachers that is based on the highly successful Santa Cruz Model of Induction and Mentoring. While helping to reverse this trend, you can improve teacher effectiveness, which will also contribute to increased student achievement. This induction and mentoring module has been conducted by the New Teacher Center in Santa Cruz, CA in more than 30 states over 20 years.

The New Teacher Center (NTC) at the University of Memphis is licensed by the NTC in Santa Cruz, CA to conduct training based on their model. The curriculum comprises full-day workshops that provide professional development activities designed to improve teacher retention and effectiveness, as well as student achievement in P-12 classrooms. Since 2003 the NTC at the University of Memphis has conducted training based on this model of induction and mentoring for educators across the State of Tennessee. Educators from Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, Texas, and Colorado have also attended the regional training sessions.

The stimulus funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 will open up funding opportunities to be used by schools and school districts to pay for high-quality induction and mentoring training, as well as comprehensive evaluation of programs through the New Teacher Center at the University of Memphis.
