Belinda Fleming, Ph.D. Clinical Assistant Professor

Teaching: Dr. Fleming currently serves as the Director of the Family Nurse Practitioner Program
where she has implemented several new clinical teaching strategies with the help and
support of the gifted FNP faculty. She also teaches Advanced Health Assessment, Scholarly
Synthesis, Advanced Pharmacology, as well as advanced clinical courses. She also serves
as one of the coordinators of the Regents Online Degree Program of the Tennessee Board
of Regents.

TN; Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN), University of Tennessee Health Science Center,
Memphis, TN; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Southern Adventist University,
Collegedale, Tennessee.
Service: Dr. Fleming is a member of American Nurses Association, American Association of Nurse
Practitioners, National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties. Presently she
serves as a vice president of Sigma Theta Tau, Beta Theta at Large Chapter. Dr. Fleming
is a Nurse Corps officer of the U.S. Navy Reserve.
Practice: Dr. Fleming has been a nurse practitioner for the past 30 years. She has worked in
many areas of advanced practice; urban and rural settings, primary care, skilled facilities,
and specialty clinics. For the past nine years she has worked at May Medical Group,
Munford, Tennessee.
Research Interest: Dr. Fleming has research interest in childhood obesity and how exercise and diet may
affect inflammatory response and the metabolic syndrome components. She is also interested
in discovering what teaching strategies work best in clinical education.
More: Dr. Fleming is married to Gary Fleming and they have two grown children. She enjoys
traveling, film, remodeling houses, stain-glass making, sewing, and reading.
