Scholarship:
Dr. Speros’ program of research focuses on systems and strategies that promote health
literacy in adult populations. She has delivered numerous papers and podium presentations
to professional audiences across the country on topics related to patient education
and health literacy, nursing staff education and competency development, and the nurse’s
role in health promotion.

Teaching:
Dr. Speros is the recipient of numerous teaching awards and honors, including the
University of Memphis’ 2004 Distinguished Teaching Award. She teaches undergraduate
and graduate nursing courses at the University. She also teaches graduate nursing
courses online for the Regents Online Degree Program (RODP). She is known for her
enthusiasm and entertaining style of teaching in the classroom, and her commitment
to student learning.
Service:
Dr. Speros serves as the chair of the LSON Graduate Curriculum Committee. She is an
active member of several local and national nursing organizations, and is past President
of the local chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society. Dr. Speros
served on the National Task Force for the development of the Doctor of Nursing Practice
(DNP) competencies. She regularly consults with various community and healthcare agencies
in the design, selection, use, and evaluation of health-related information.
Practice:
Dr. Speros is board certified as both a Family Nurse Practitioner and an Adult Nurse
Practitioner. She is currently in practice at Humphrey’s Family Practice clinic in
Memphis.
