LT James Walker, BSN, RN, USN (Retired) LSON Class of ‘99

After completing his BSN degree at LSON in 1999, LT James “Jimmy” Walker continued his career in the US Navy as a member of the Navy Nurse Corp working in
the NICU, PACU, and OR. LT Walker retired in July 2009 from the US Navy with 24 years
of service, ten of which were spent as a Nurse.
Upon retirement, Walker accepted a position in the Department of the Army as coordinator
of the National Surgeons Quality Improvement Program at Blanchfield Army Community
Hospital in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. ”I can honestly say,” shares Walker, “that my
education at the Loewenberg School of Nursing prepared me in every way to face every
aspect of my varied career ... thanks for a job well done.”
LT Walker also shares the “storybook ending” of his career in the US Navy. For the
final three and a half years, Walker had the privilege of traveling Europe with family
and friends while stationed in Naples, Italy. This experience, he says, allowed him
to appreciate American medicine.
