*File must be complete on these dates.
• Note: In order to allow adequate time for processing of the U of M transfer credit
evaluation you should receive your acceptance letter to the University by September 15 (Spring Term) or February
1 (Fall Term)

BSN ADMISSION CRITERIA / PROCEDURE:
- Be admitted to The University of Memphis as a degree seeking undergraduate student
(http://www.memphis.edu/admissions/)
- Have a minimum college cumulative grade point average of 2.7 and a cumulative of 2.66
in prerequisite sciences (A prerequisite science course may be repeated only once
to earn a grade of "C" or higher. A maximum of two prerequisite science courses may
be repeated to earn the minimum required grade.) Admission is competitive based on cumulative GPA. (Developmental courses are not included).
- Have completed the following specified pre-nursing courses with a minimum grade of

*Note: Prerequisite sciences must have been completed within seven years of the date of
entrance to the BSN program. If more than seven years has lapsed since credit was
earned, students must either repeat courses or validate currency of knowledge by taking
a higher level course in the same field or by obtaining a minimum fiftieth percentile
score on the appropriate NLN science test. www.nln.org/testingservices Repeating BIOL 2020/2021 (A & P II) will validate A & P I & II.
- Clear any high school deficiencies.
- Complete the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS V) with a minimum overall score of 62.5% (72% on the TEAS IV) and a minimum score of
60 in each of the four test components: Reading, Math, Science, and English. The test can be
repeated to achieve the required scores.
- Meet the University of Memphis minimum TOEFL score requirement of 173 computer-based,
61 Internet-based, or 500 paper-pencil or a minimum IELTS score of 5.0 for students
for whom English is a second language.
- Students who are transferring from another nursing program must submit a letter of
good standing from the dean/director of the previous nursing program and a transcript.
Applicants with less than a grade of “C” in a nursing course will not be eligible
for consideration. This includes repeated courses in which a grade above “C” was earned.

FRESHMAN ADMISSION
Qualified high school seniors admitted as freshmen to The University of Memphis may
at the time of admission to the University be directly admitted to the nursing major.
Freshman admission to the nursing major guarantees placement in the nursing program
in the second semester of the sophomore year to students who remain in good standing
and meet all Loewenberg School of Nursing BSN Admission Requirements.
CRITERIA / PROCEDURE
- Completion of high school Algebra I, II, Geometry, Biology, and Chemistry
- Minimum ACT composite score of 21 with a minimum score of 19 in all areas
- Graduation from an accredited high school with a cumulative grade point average of
3.0
- Obtain admission to The University of Memphis as a degree seeking undergraduate student

- Complete and submit the Loewenberg School of Nursing admission application. Deadline – May 1 (Freshman admission only)
Applicants will be rank-ordered on the basis of a calculated point system.
Freshman Point System:
Cumulative high school quality point average x 100 added to the ACT score x 10 or
SAT score
If a student does not meet criteria for Freshman Admission he/she may apply for admission
at the college sophomore level.
SOPHOMORE ADMISSION

sciences are over seven years old, submit validation of current science knowledge
by verification of employment as an RN by employer. If not employed as an RN, see
validation NOTE* Loewenberg School of Nursing BSN Admission Requirements.)
- Hold an unencumbered, active RN license (NCLEX accepted for the TEAS)
ACCELERATED SECOND DEGREE BSN ADMISSION
- For second Baccalaureate degree students ONLY
- Applicants must meet the Loewenberg School of Nursing BSN Admission Requirements (noted
above).
- Fall term through following Fall term (16 months)
- Accelerated BSN Option only available at the Memphis Campus.
