NO BALLOONS OR GLITTER ARE ALLOWED IN THE ROSE THEATRE

Parking garage and Rose Theatre open ONE HOUR before event. Once Theatre seating
reaches capacity, entry to the Theatre will be closed. Guests may stay in the lobby
area but currently there is no video/sound access from the stage.
INSTRUCTIONS TO GRADUATES
Graduates must proof their name on the DRAFT PROGRAM (watch for this to be posted two weeks before event). Please send corrections to Cherie
Lynn Arnett at clarnett@memphis.edu. All corrections must be submitted via e-mail no later than May 6th in order to be corrected on the program.
Graduation gown only (no mortar board). Pick up cap and gown according to directions
on the commencement office website.[ http://www.memphis.edu/commencement/] possible in order to steam or iron the gown before the nursing convocation. The
only honor cords that may be worn are Sigma Theta Tau cords.
Women: Be sure the white collar is in your gown package. Men: Wear dress shirt under gown, preferably with tie, and long pants; absolutely no shorts.
MSN: Be sure you get the hood with your gown.
NO GRADUATES WILL BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN NURSING CONVOCATION WITHOUT PROPER ATTIRE.
6:00 p.m. Doors open promptly
***Family is not permitted to accompany graduates into the Entertainment Lobby. All
guests, friends and family members should proceed directly to the theatre for seating
upon arrival.***
PERSONAL ITEMS: Give any valuables, purses, etc. to family to keep. Entertainment Lobby will not be
secure to leave items.
6:05 p.m. Graduates come to the Entertainment Lobby (to the right, just inside the
entrance to building) and check in at table.
6:15 p.m. Check-in procedure – bring your pronouncer card to the table no later than
6:15. A number will be written on the back of the card. This number indicates your
position location in the processional line-up, and is very important. **Please see
comment below regarding pronouncer cards.
6:30 p.m. Be in the Entertainment Lobby robed and ready to form processional line.
BSN students will receive their nursing ribbon during line up.
Each graduate should have a 3 ½ x 5 ½ card with your name printed clearly and phonetic
pronunciation. Graduates will hand this card to the Master of Ceremonies to read and
then proceed across the stage. **Please see comment above in check-in procedures.
Graduates will process into the theatre at 7:00 p.m. and will remain standing until
all have reached their seats. They will be directed by the Associate Dean on stage
to be seated.
The Convocation Program will include welcome, awards from local agencies, and the
speaker. The Hooding will follow and then Pinning.
Graduates will be directed to stand together (½ of each row at a time) and move to
their right, forming a line to ascend to the stage. Each graduate will hand his/her
card to the MC and proceed across the stage with their Pinning Ribbon or Hood as appropriate.
Please be sure to pause for a picture when receiving ribbon/pin/hood. The first group
when returning to seats will return to the front row instead of the second row.
Closing remarks from the Dean
Graduates leave two by two to the lobby. IMPORTANT NOTE: As graduates enter lobby move quickly out into the lobby. DO NOT congregate
at the door to avoid blocking others from exiting the theatre.
Guests are welcome to come to the foot of the stage and take pictures as graduates
are being hooded or pinned. Guests should watch where their graduate is standing in
the line and come to the foot of the stage when the graduate is 3rd or 4th in line.
After the graduate receives the hood or pin, the presenter will stop briefly and turn
with the graduate toward the camera to allow for pictures to be taken by family or
friend.
