Dr. Strong is an Associate Professor at the University of Memphis, Loewenberg College of Nursing with 26+ years of experience in women's health.  Dr. Strong is an international speaker and author in the field of lactation.  Given that childbirth is the primary reason for hospital admission and that Nursing is the largest health care profession in the U.S., nurses play a crucial role in promoting health across the lifespan. Even more so, nurses are uniquely positioned to provide evidence based lactation care to new mom's and their infant.  Dr. Strong has funded research in overcoming breastfeeding barriers.  Eliminating educational barriers across higher education and especially in pre-licensure nursing programs has been Dr. Strong's focus of research.  Dr. Strong received AWHONN's 2014 "Award of Excellence in Education" and was listed as one of "20 Outstanding Professors of Women's Health Nursing (2015)" in the U.S.  Having served on multiple leadership boards and committees such as the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) Research Committee, International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA) Research Committee, Memphis Area Lactation Consultant Association (MALCA) Board, Shelby County Breastfeeding Coalition (SCBC) Board, TN Hotline Community Advisory Board (CAB), United States Lactation Consultant Association's (USLCA) Board of Director for Professional Development, and the UofM Family- Friendly Campus Committee-Chair.  Dr. Strong remains committed to improving maternal and infant health outcomes.
