Research and Teaching

William's interests include Social and Political Philosophy, Ethics, and African-American
Philosophy.
His current research involves an analysis of liberal political theories and their
application to the particular problems of the urban underclass. Specifically he is
concerned with discovering which liberal political theory or principles can effectively
inform policies directed at revitalizing such communities. Any effective proposal
for revitalization must address the problem that some in the urban underclass have
reasonably rejected liberal values due to oppression, poverty, alienation, and a loss
of autonomy.
