Ryan Falbisaner
BA, Philosophy - Warren Wilson College
Research and Teaching

After earning his BA, Ryan took some time off to be with his partner as she completed vet school at Michigan State University. While living in the area, he attended two graduate-level courses. These experiences convinced him he should continue down the path of studying philosophy, as he found he still enjoyed studying and discussing philosophy.

Ryan’s interests are primarily situated in social/political philosophy. At present he is concerned with notions of agency in contemporary politics. Some questions he is interested in are: Where does the agent come into play in political action? What does praxis look like from the perspective of the agent? He considers questions of agency in relation to Foucault’s notion of dispositif to explore the role of aesthetic experiences in agency formation. In addition he is interested in discussions of sovereignty in relation to nation-states.
