Welcome to the Department of Physics at The University of Memphis. I would like to
introduce you to our world-class researchers, friendly staff, talented and energetic
faculty, state-of-the-art facilities and the broad opportunities available within
our programs.
We are a vibrant department of 12 faculty members and instructors. The moderate size
of our department allows our advisors to work with the students on a one-to-one basis
in designing a curriculum and research program to meet their individual needs and
interests. This also promotes excellent working relationships between the students
and faculty, and provides a training atmosphere that is often difficult to attain
at larger institutions.
Our department is rapidly growing in size and number of research projects. We have
successful B.S. and M.S. programs in physics, which include programs in materials
science and engineering, nano-technology, biophysics and theoretical physics.
In addition to providing our students with an excellent education, we are unique in
that we have many research opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students.
You will find that our research programs, modern instrumentation, scientific instrument
shop, and excellent seminar programs are all disproportionate to our size. We also
provide in-service training for K-12 science teachers.
Once again, welcome, we hope you enjoy perusing our website and should you have any
questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
