Refreshments served at 3:30pm, Manning Hall 222

The UAB Department of Physics offers students opportunities to pursue graduate studies leading to a PhD degree in physics with specializations in astrophysics, biophysics, materials physics, optics and laser physics, and computational physics using state-of-the-art experimental and computational facilities.

Specific research projects vary from manipulating tiny particles imbedded in materials for improved laser operation to analysis of astronomical bodies using laboratory instrumentation.

The talk will emphasize the fundamental theme of each project and a student’s role in the work. The various graduate student support options including NIH Training Grants and NASA Research Fellowships will also be briefly described.
