Conference Theme:
Promoting Economic Development through Regional Cooperation and Planning
We are currently accepting proposals to participate in the 2011 Planners Network Conference
in the following categories:
Present as part of a Panel Session:
Individuals interested in participating in concurrent panel sessions (12-15 minute
presentations) should submit an abstract of 500 words or less. Abstract proposals will be reviewed by the host committee. Accepted proposals will
be grouped into sessions of 3 to 5 presenters with similar topics. Please list 3 keywords or phrases along with your abstract to help conference organizers
appropriately group presentations by topic.
Relevant topics include (but are not limited to) urban food security, health and wellness,
transportation alternatives, regional workforce and business development, public school
reform, restorative justice, youth empowerment, green jobs, urban design, international
development, labor, and historic preservation.
Organize a Panel Session:
Individuals may work with colleagues to organize a panel session on a topic relevant
to the conference theme and the purpose of the Planners Network. Those wishing to
organize a panel should submit a proposal that includes a short session title and
description of the session topic (not to exceed 300 words). Session organizers must
also identify the session participants, including a moderator, and submit abstracts
for the individual presentations that will be included in the session. (3-5 presentations,
with abstracts of 500 words or less).
Present a Poster:
Individuals may also propose a poster that describes recent or ongoing planning efforts
or research relevant to the conference theme or to the Planners Network. Each poster
should feature a clearly articulated theme, describe the core of the planning research
or practice being conducted, summarize outcomes, and offer tentative lessons learned.
The poster should identify the professional planners, local officials, and citizen
activists involved in the case and provide contact information. Those interested in
presenting a poster should submit a summary of the information described above for
review by the host committee. Accepted posters should be 30" by 40".
Submit presentation abstracts, panel session information, or poster summaries to the
host committee by April 1, 2011. Submissions should be made via email to cityplanning@memphis.edu. Include the term "PN submission" in the email subject line. All submissions must
include author(s) names, titles, and affiliations (name of your organization or university).
There are no fees for submitting a proposal, however if your proposal is accepted,
you must register and pay the appropriate registration fee.
Submissions will be reviewed on a rolling basis and authors/organizers will be notified
of acceptance or rejection as soon as possible.
