Faculty and Staff:
In an effort to boost the international exposure of its students in a global world, the University of Memphis is coordinating an integrated one-stop service center to appeal to prospective international students who seek to study in the USA. The new Center for International Education Services (CIES) is now the institutional home for the UofM Study Abroad Office, the Intensive English for Internationals Program and the International Student Services Office.
CIES is committed to serving all the needs of the University's international community and preparing UofM students to become global citizens while enhancing efforts to expand our national and international footprint. By centralizing these services in one location, the Center will provide a more welcoming environment for international students and scholars while facilitating their engagement with local students, faculty and staff. Dr. Rebecca Laumann who is leading the new Center noted, "The goals for the new Center for International Education Services are to increase international student enrollment; provide expert advising on student visa issues; engage in campus internationalization initiatives; build alliances within the campus and the Memphis community to support international research and collaboration; and promote cultural awareness through effective programming." The University is pursuing local and international partners who can help serve as catalysts for this major initiative - which will also assist in positioning Memphis as a hub for global business and cultural organizations requiring a sophisticated globally oriented location for their endeavors.
