Alumni Association Award for Distinguished Research and Creative Achievement Dr. Rabi Bhagat
Dr. Bhagat is nationally and internationally known for his research in three areas:
- Human stress and cognition in organizations
- Cross-cultural issues in organizational behavior and management
- Cultural issues in technology and knowledge transfer
One reviewer wrote: “[Dr. Bhagat] has made a truly outstanding contribution to organizational
behavior in general and, more particularly, the important areas of international management
and organizational stress. . . . his cross-cultural work has informed practice as
well as made a substantial contribution to theory and research. He has merged these
interests to examine how variations within and between cultures influence reactions
to stress. . . . he [has studied] the effects of stressful life events on work behavior
of employees in nine countries. . . . [this collaborative project demonstrates] his
strong leadership and coordination skills in conducting high-impact, ground-breaking
research.”
“The fields of cross-cultural management and organizational behavior would be much
the poorer without the contributions of Dr. Bhagat,” wrote another reviewer. He has
worked with many of the main international scholars in these areas and has published
numerous articles in leading management and applied psychology journals. Some of these
articles have become classics, providing direction and instrumentation for many others
to follow. His recent work on knowledge creation and dissemination is an example that
leverages his knowledge of multiple and diverse disciplines. He has also written and/or
edited three advanced research books and has served on the editorial boards of at
least nine research journals.
Professor Bhagat is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association, the Society
for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, the American Psychological Society,
and the International Academy for Intercultural Research.
Dr. Bhagat, who has been at the University for 14 years, is a professor of management
and earned his doctoral degree at the University of Illinois-Urbana.
Congratulations, DR. BHAGAT.
