Alumni Association Distinguished Advising Award Mary Hendrick Brignole
Mary Hendrick Brignole’s journey has included extensive experience in the corporate
and non- profit worlds. While she was pursuing her undergraduate degree in the University
College, she set new goals. This statement comes from her supervisor, Dr. Carl Chando.
“I will always remember that during her interview she made it clear that after retiring
from another career …the only job she wanted was one as an academic advisor…she has
consistently maintained the energy, spirit, and enthusiasm she brought to us on her
first day on the job.”
Ms. Brignole has represented the interests of academic advising by encouraging students
to participate in the University’s learning community program, “Fresh Connections.”
A student best explains:
“Ms. Brignole scheduled courses for me that she knew would guarantee my success in
college, including a learning community in games and computer programming where others
were experiencing the transition to college. Ms. Brignole knew in advance what would
ease my worries.”
Ms. Brignole has been instrumental in the annual execution of “Discover Your Major
Day,” a program for all students that involves departments from across the University.
