Distinguished Advising Award
Dr. Lloyd D. Brooks

Dr. Brooks has been a member of the faculty at the University of Memphis since 1971. Since he arrived at our University nearly 23 years ago, he has served as an advisor and worked with well over a thousand students at all levels. From 1993 he served 1999 as career advisor for all of the undergraduate students in that major, and he still serves as the chair of the college undergraduate curriculum committee. He also serves as advisor to the over 100 M.S. and MBA students and to doctoral students with concentrations in his department. His advising work with them often begins even before they arrive on campus and he is often the first person those students see before they begin their studies here.

Professor Brooks has taken a leading role in using new technologies to enhance the ability of students to receive advising information. Nevertheless, he has never forgotten that although technologies can greatly enhance the advising process, they cannot replace the personal contact with the students he advises. One of Professor Brooks most important contributions has taken him outside his work in the department. He has been a leader in advising and licensing students seeking high school licensure in areas related to business technology, working closely with the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences at our university and with the Tennessee Department of Education. This award recognizes his work with students at all levels, his commitment to serving students and his profession, and for the leadership role he has taken in the successful partnerships between teacher education and business education. He has made significant contributions to the professionalization and improvement of business education in schools across West Tennessee.

Congratulations, DR. BROOKS.
