Alumni Association Distinguished Teaching Award
Teresa S. Dalle

Dr. Teresa Dalle specializes in Applied Linguistics and English as a Second Language. After receiving her doctorate from the University of Arizona, she came to the University of Memphis, where she helped establish the Bachelors and Masters of Arts programs in English as a Second Language. She has worked with undergraduate and graduate students for over twenty-five years and has trained many of the ESL teachers in the local school systems and many others who now teach overseas.

In class, Dr. Dalle is clear and direct in her instruction, imparting the knowledge that helps students most in their careers dealing with non-native English speakers. Dr. Dalle’s students describe her as a dynamic person, a helpful advisor, and a wonderful source of information and inspiration.

Dr. Dalle’s work has resulted in over thirty-six publications and approximately one hundred presentations and workshops on various aspects of teaching English as a Second Language and working with non-English speaking populations.
