Alumni Association Distinguished Achievement in the Creative Arts Award James (Jed) Jackson
Painter and teacher of art, Professor Jed Jackson, has an extensive national and
international exhibition record (some 108 solo, group, invited or juried exhibitions),
12 fellowships, and 22 invited lectures. He earned his Master of Fine Arts at Cornell
University in 1980. According to his colleague, Dr. Fred Albertson, “Jed’s record
of success is the direct result of his paintings, a striking blend of traditional
formalism in their composition and meticulous attention to technical quality, all
within the parameters of a contemporary neo-realist style…..” Jeffrey Nessin, President
of the Memphis College of Art, writes that Jackson’s “exhibition record testifies
to his reception and his ambition, but most of all to his unique, sharp and unsparing
vision.”
From 1999 until 2008, Professor Jackson served as chair of the Art Department. Jed
Jackson has made and continues to make a distinguished contribution to the creative
arts.
