Thomas W. Briggs Foundation Excellence in Teaching Award Dennis Laumann
Laumann teaches world civilizations, African history, and Honors Programs seminars
on Marxism and Che Guevara. Dr. Laumann exemplifies the ideals of the award: a talented
and committed teacher, a mentor and friend to undergraduates, and a positive force
on the campus culture, writes Dr. Aram Goudsouzian in his nomination. He presents
the complex themes of religion, time, culture, and economic and political development
with impressive clarity, as well as a gift for humor, he says. Laumann also is a committed
adviser who helps oversee the African Students Association. In addition, he takes
a group of students to Ghana each summer for the University's study abroad program.
