Thomas W. Briggs Foundation Excellence in Teaching Award Nancy Mardis
Dr. Mardis, an associate professor in the School of Accountancy, began her career
at the University of Memphis in 1989. She teaches legal environment and business law
in the School of Accountancy and personal finance in the Department of Finance, Insurance
and Real Estate. Throughout her teaching career, she has consistently demonstrated
the ability to work well with students, engage them in learning, and give them time
outside class to accommodate their individual concerns and needs. Dr. Mardis has received
numerous awards at the university and college level, including the 2006 Alumni Association
Distinguished Teaching Award. Later that same year, she was awarded a Suzanne Downs
Palmer Professorship for teaching, the most prestigious award offered by the Fogelman
College of Business & Economics. Mardis also has gained recognition for her work with
ACAD, the University’s academic orientation course.
