Michael Schmidt

Professor Schmidt received his Masters of Graphic Design from North Carolina State University and joined the faculty of the University of Memphis in 1995. Professor Schmidt exemplifies the goals of engaged scholarship by building research partnerships to seek solutions to real-world problems. He has combined technology and innovative graphic design skills to produce a hand-held device to help parents of patients at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital understand the Hospital’s concept of informed consent. Yet another of his projects involves an interactive decision-making tool for young oncology patients. The Center for Multi-Media Arts which Professor Schmidt founded in 2003 and continues to direct has become a nexus for innovative research projects that illustrate the practical and visual arts.”
