Alumni Association Distinguished Research in the Social Sciences and Business Award
William T. Smith

Dr. Smith is a prodigious researcher who is routinely published in top economics journals. His work has appeared in such publications as the Journal of International Money and Finance, Review of Financial Studies, the European Economic Review and the Journal of Money, Credit and Banking. It is the nature of his research and the impact is had made in the discipline that one nominator cites as truly remarkableOne of his areas of focus is macroeconomic dynamics and growth. Dr. Smith’s paper “Taxes, Uncertainty and Long-term Growth” was the first to explore the consequences of the GIE utility for macroeconomics and growth. Because of his work, the use of this utility model has now become standard in this area of literature. While this work is widely cited, it is its position as a seminal piece that is truly remarkable.”
