Alumni Association Distinguished Teaching Award
William T. Smith, II
Dr. Smith earned his PhD at the University of Virginia, and has been at the University
of Memphis since 1993. He teaches classes on a variety of topics, including macroeconomics
and international economics, at every level, from Principles through the PhD, and
has been active in the International MBA program since its inception.
Dr. Julia Heath, Chair of the Department of Economics, writes that 'in a department
with outstanding, award-winning teachers, Dr. Smith stands out. He transmits the joy
of discovery to students, a different way of knowing that they respond to and that
makes him a treasure.'
