Faculty Scholarship Week and Twenty-first Annual Faculty Convocation
April 16 - 23, 2008
Faculty Scholarship Week: The Friends of the University Libraries are proud to sponsor
Faculty Scholarship Week, April 16 - 23, in collaboration with University Library
staff as well as Academic Affairs and Special Events. Noon activities are planned
in the McWherter Rotunda to include readings, panels, and book signings, as well as
a display of faculty work.

Twenty-first Annual Faculty Convocation
President Shirley C. Raines and Provost Ralph Faudree invite you to participate in
the Twenty-first Annual Faculty Procession and Convocation to be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 with key speaker Dr. Ralph Albanese, 2008 recipient of Willard R. Sparks Eminent Faculty Award.
This annual event honors outstanding faculty members by granting the following awards:
Alumni Association Distinguished Research Awards, Alumni Association Distinguished
Teaching Awards, Alumni Association Distinguished Advising Awards, and Thomas W. Briggs
Foundation Excellence in Teaching Awards, Allen J. Hammond Presidential Service Award,
and Willard R. Sparks Eminent Faculty Award. (View the names of award winners for 2008)
Faculty will assemble at 1:30 pm to don regalia and line up for the procession from
the College of Communications and Fine Arts to the Rose Theatre where the ceremony
will be begin at 2:00 p.m.

Faculty Convocation Details
Regalia: Faculty members who wish to rent regalia for Faculty Convocation should call or email
the Commencement Office IMMEDIATELY to place their order. The rental charges are listed
on the Commencement website under “Faculty Information” (http://saweb.memphis.edu/commencement/faculty.htm). If you plan to use the regalia for Commencement on May 3, 2008, there will be only
one charge for both occasions.
Rental regalia pick up: Commencement Office, 5th Floor, Wilder Tower, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday and Tuesday
April 21-22. On the day of Faculty Convocation, April 23, Regalia may be picked up
from 8:30 a.m. to NOON from the commencement Office.
Drop off: Rose Theatre after the program.
Please note that, unless you are an award winner or presenter, it is not necessary
to wear regalia to participate. Information regarding regalia for 2008 award winners
can be found in the link above.
Time: 1:30pm, April 23, meet in the Lobby of the College of Communication at Fine Arts
Building to assemble for the processional. (The times for award winners and presenters
can be found in the link above.)
Procession Route: Leave the Art Museum Lobby of the College of Communication and Fine Arts Building,
proceed south past the McWherter Library, Pause the Processional to pick up the Library
Banner and the members of the McWherter Library Staff, proceed south, Circle to the
west side of the fountain in the Student Activities Plaza, Proceed west, south and
east around the fountain to the Rose Theatre south entrance. View map
Recession: Faculty will leave the Rose Theatre the same way that they entered.
Reception: A reception will be in the lobby of the Rose Theatre immediately following the ceremony.
