Additional Course Requirements for Graduate Students in Child and Family Studies Clinical Graduate Students
In addition to the core program requirements, Clinical graduate students in the Child
and Family Research Area must complete the following courses:
- Child Psychopathology
- Child Behavior Therapy
- Family Therapy
- ONE of the following: Human Development in the Family Context; Psychology and Medical
Illness; Psychoeducational Assessment II; Psychological Consultation; Psychoeducational
Assessment III.
Child clinical students also take certain courses such as Developmental Psychology
and Social and Personality Development to fulfill basic Ph.D. area requirements.
Further, a major portion of clinical practicum work must involve children and the
Master's thesis and Doctoral dissertation must pertain to children or families.
Experimental Graduate Students
Experimental graduate students in the Child and Family Research Area must complete
the following courses:
- Developmental Psychology
- Social and Personality Development
- Other seminars to be determined in consultation with the student's major professor
School Graduate Students
All school psychology students complete course work in developmental psychology adolescence,
learning and cognition, psychoeducational assessment and interventions with children,
children with disabilities and their families, as well as child and family related
field experiences.
