A limited number of research and teaching assistantships are available. All PhD students
are expected to be funded as RAs or TAs throughout their pre-internship training.
A limited number of assistantships may be available to MA/EdS students. All departmental
assistantships are contracted for 20 hours per week. During the first year of departmental
financial assistance, the student must attend a weekly colloquium on Friday afternoon
which may be taken for credit (PSYC 7621) in order to achieve the required 12 hrs
per semester. The department business manager assists the student in completing the
contract and provides information on specific contractual expectations, funding amounts
and payments. In most instances funding is provided by the Department of Psychology
and students seeking financial aid should contact the program coordinator.
Assistantships or other financial support may be available through the College of
Education, Health and Human Sciences, The Lipman Early Childhood School and Research
Institute, or the Graduate School. Students are encouraged to contact these resources.
Students on assistantships that require 20 hours peer week of service are not expected
to be employed in other capacities during their training. Other forms of financial
assistance (e.g., student loans) may be explored through the UM Office of Student
Financial Aid.
