New Cognitive Science Concentration
The Tennessee Board of Regents has approved the department's proposal for a Cognitive Science concentration for the Bachelor of Arts degree. The primary objective of the concentration is to supply undergraduate students interested in the cognitive area with interdisciplinary training to meet the growing demand for cognitive scientists.
Randy Floyd Honored
The Editorial Advisory Board for the School Psychology Review honored Dr. Randy Floyd as the winner of the 2008 Editorial Appreciation Award at the convention of the National Association of School Psychologists held in Boston in February.
$2M Grant to Fund Autism Research
For the next five years Drs. Charles Blaha and Guy Mittleman, both professors in Behavioral Neuroscience, will investigate a disconnection hypothesis that pathology of the cerebellum results in abnormal dopamine release in the cortex that underlies some of the core symptoms of autism.

Dr. Xiangen Hu, associate professor and director of the Workforce Advanced Distributive Learning (ADL) Co-Laboratory, is principal investigator for an Institute for Education Sciences-funded project specifically designed to improve the skill levels of students with deficiencies in mathematics.

I/O Students Provided Real World Experience
Industrial/organizational students have opportunities to take concepts learned in the classroom into real workplace labs under the auspices of the University of Memphis Center for Organizational Research and Effectiveness (UMCORE).
National Science Foundation Grant Awarded

ABOUT US

The University of Memphis Psychology Department consists of approximately 32 full-time faculty members, 20 adjunct faculty (psychologists in the community who teach and/or supervise our students), 5 postdoctoral fellows, 90 doctoral students, 100 masters students, and over 700 undergraduate majors and minors.

The Department is also the home of the Center for Applied Psychological Research, one of the most successful of the centers created under the State of Tennessee's Centers of Excellence program.
