Alum Leads Department

Dr. William Zachry, who received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in psychology from the University of Memphis is now interim chairman of the department. Before returning to the U of M three years ago he taught at the University of Tennessee at Martin for 33 years. While there he served as associate director and then as director of the honors program for 24 years.

Since joining the Department of Psychology, Zachry has served as associate chair for two years; planned and directed the 2007 Mid-South Psychology Conference for undergraduates; developed an undergraduate travel fund to support student research presentations at conferences; created and led a teaching colloquium, a monthly series of presentations on teaching aimed at improving critical thinking; and served as a reviewer for Teaching of Psychology.

Zachry also directs the psychology honors program, serves as Psi Chi advisor, and teaches, all activities he will continue in addition to his chair responsibilities.
