Graesser Receives APA Presidential Award

Dr. Art Graesser, professor in Psychology, adjunct in Computer Science and co-director of the Institute for Intelligent Systems, has been selected as the recipient of the 2011 Distinguished Contributions of Applications of Psychology to Education and Training Award from the American Psychological Association (APA).

 This highly prestigious award recognizes a psychologist for evidence-based applications of psychology to education and training. The award acknowledges Graesser’s contributions in “the application of psychological principles to the study of cognitive science, and particularly cognitive engineering of useful education and training technologies.”

 He will be presented with a personalized Presidential Award citation during the awards ceremony at the 2011 annual APA convention in Washington, D.C.

 Graesser has received numerous other awards including the Board of Visitors Eminent Faculty Award. Recently, he was given the Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award by the Society for Text and Discourse.

 Graesser has been at the University of Memphis 25 years.
