ASIST Suicide Intervention Training/ Certification Information

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) on Friday/Saturday, October 23rd and 24th

ASIST is a two-day intensive, interactive and practice-based training designed to help individuals recognize students at risk and then provide them with helpful referrals.

The two day certification course includes group discussion, audiovisual components, role plays and lecture. By utilizing a full range of training activities throughout the workshop, participants are able to see, hear, and learn the information and practice the skills needed to provide "first aid” for suicide prevention.

Workshop Trainers are Vicki McCall and Michael LaBonte.  Both hold advanced degrees and are certified by Living Works, Inc. as accomplished practitioners in suicide prevention, intervention and postvention.

Workshop participants will receive a manual, and resource materials that they can take from the workshop to keep as quick reference guides and refreshers.  They will also receive a nationally recognized certification.  Because ASIST is a highly interactive workshop, it is critical that all participants be on time and participate in the entire two-day experience.  Refreshments will be provided on both days of the training.  Lunch is on your own.

COST for TRAINING

The fee for students is $75;  staff $90; and for faculty $100. However, the first 20 individuals to sign-up can attend the full training Free of Charge. Send the completed registration form to Naomi Blake at nblake@memphis.edu.

Important Note: Due to the restricted number of seats available for the training, ADVANCE REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.  Participants will be selected on a first come, first serve basis. TO RESERVE YOUR SPOT AT THE TRAINING, WE WOULD ASK YOU TO REGISTER BY MONDAY, OCTOBER 19, 2009.
