Dorm Recycling
That’s right! Dorm recycling is finally here and it is here to stay! Recycling bins
are conveniently located near the dumpster areas of the dorms: Mynders, Smith, South,
Rawls, LLC and Richardson. The Carpenter Complex also has a recycle center located
on the West side of the complex between the two Architecture and Design residence
area. At each location the items paper/cardboard, plastic #1, #2, #4, aluminum, glass,
tin, and steel can be recycled. Please stay posted as our program continues to develop!
MORE BINS!
Haven’t seen enough recycle bins around campus? More bins are on the way! Every day
our collection crew will place at least one new bin on campus! The first major distribution
of recycle bins took place in the fall of 2009. These bins have worked so well that
we are in the process of ordering even more bins until they can be seen in every building
and on every floor!
NEW COLLECTION TRUCK
Thanks to the Student Green Fee, our new recycle collection truck is here! This truck
works much like a garbage truck and mechanically picks-up large recycle bins stored
outside all buildings. This upgrade makes our collection process more efficient and
allows more bins to be placed. The custodial crew will become a part of this new system
by moving all recyclable materials to the central location in the buildings for the
truck to pick up.
ELECTRIC TRUCKS
In addition to our 2 electric trucks, we are purchasing 9 more electrical trucks to
be used around campus by our physical plant employees. It costs $.0295 per mile to
run our electric vehicle, while it costs $0.3736 per mile to run a gasoline vehicle.
