Reinstatement for Course Cancellation After Non-Payment
set cell vertical height

Background

State law requires that all Tennessee post-secondary education institutions cancel the classes of any student who has not satisfied fees by the institution's published deadlines.

U of M Course Cancellation Processes for Failure to Satisfy Fees by the Appropriate Fee Payment Deadline(s)

The U of M performs two "Initial" course cancellation processes each Spring and Fall term:

  • one for the Full, RODP, and 1st Half parts of term
  • one for the 2nd Half part of term

The University performs three "Initial" course cancellation processes each Summer term:

  • two for all parts of term
  • one for the 2nd Half and 2nd Teacher parts of term

Additionally, for each "Initial" course cancellation process, the University performs a "Final" course cancellation process. (These Final processes are sometimes referred to as "follow-up" processes.) Thus, Spring and Fall each have four course cancellations - two Initial and two Final, and Summer has six - three Initial and three Final.

Reinstatements

If your courses are canceled due to non-payment during an Initial course cancellation process, you may be eligible for reinstatement into your classes. YOU MUST request reinstatement in the Registrar's Office (Wilder Tower 003) by end of day on the reinstatement deadline date listed on the semester's Dates and Deadlines calendar. If you miss this deadline, your request will NOT be processed. (If you miss the deadline, you may register for classes in any future parts of term which have not yet begun for the current term, but you will not be allowed back into the classes for parts of term already in progress.) Further, YOU MUST pay fees in full, including late fees (the Installment Payment Plan is not available during this process), by the Bursar's fee payment deadline or your courses will be canceled again during the Final course cancellation process. (You can find a link to the Bursar's fee payment deadlines on the Dates and Deadlines calendar.)

You can petition for course reinstatements after an Initial course cancellation process only; you CANNOT petition for course reinstatements after a Final course cancellation process. Consider these examples:

Example 1
Your classes are canceled as a result of the Initial course cancellation process due to fees not being satisfied by the appropriate fee payment deadline. They are reinstated following a successful petition, but then are canceled again by the Final cancellation process because you failed to satisfy your fees in full (including late fees) by the designated fee payment deadline. You may not petition for reinstatement into those classes again. However, you may register for a later part of term which has not yet begun in the current term, or you may register for a future term.
Example 2
You register late, after the Initial course cancellation has occurred for the part of term you are registered for, and then your courses are cancelled as a result of the Final cancellation process because you failed to satisfy your fees in full (including late fees) by the designated fee payment deadline. You have no opportunity for reinstatement into those classes. You may register for a later part of term which has not yet begun in the current term, or you may register for a future term.
