Why do we delete schedules for non-payment?
State law requires that all Tennessee post-secondary education institutions delete
the classes of any student who has not satisfied fees by the institution's published
At the University of Memphis, the Bursar's Office establishes and publishes Fee Payment Deadlines.
Schedule Deletion Process
Initial Deletion for Failure to Satisfy Fees Before the Start of Classes
For each semester, the University performs an "Initial" schedule deletion twice: (1)
prior to the semester's first day of classes, and (2) prior to the 2nd Half part-of-term's
first day of classes. If your schedule is erased by an initial deletion process, you
can register for a new schedule during the Late Registration period. Be aware, however,
that this is a new schedule: you will not necessarily be able to rebuild the schedule that was deleted
because your seats in the classes might be taken by others who are registering, or
who are adjusting their schedules, during Late Registration. As a result, you:
- might not be able to take all of the courses you originally wanted, or
- might have to take courses or sections that weren't your first choices, or
- might have to take courses at times or on days that weren't your first choices.
You must pay for the schedule you have built during the Late Registration period by
the fee payment deadline after the close of Late Registration or your new schedule
will be deleted by the Secondary Schedule Deletion.
Secondary Schedule Deletion for Failure to Satisfy Fees by the End of Late Registration
& Possible Reinstatement
The University performs a "Secondary" schedule deletion at the end of each Late Registration
period to "void" the schedules of those who have not paid their fees by the Late Registration
fee payment deadline. This deletion is a little different from the Initial one: because
Late Registration is over, it is possible to have your schedule reinstated; however,
you must petition for and be granted a reinstatement. Furthermore, even if your request
is approved, you must pay for your registration before any classes are reinstated.
Note: Payment deadlines are strictly enforced.
To begin this petition process, go to the Registrar's Office, 003 Wilder Tower. Request,
complete, and submit a Reinstatement Petition form.
