For release: Aug. 8, 2006
For press information, contact

The University of Memphis chapter of Sigma Chi International Fraternity has won its third straight Peterson Award, the highest honor the fraternity bestows on an individual chapter. Only five to 10 percent of the 220 Sigma Chi chapters receive this recognition. The award was presented at the Balfour Leadership Training Workshop, attended by more than 1,700 Sigma Chi students from across North America, including 14 from the U of M.

Additionally, the Memphis chapter received the Legion of Honor Award, given to the top five chapters for academic excellence. This is the first time the Memphis chapter has received the Legion of Honor and the seventh time it has received the Peterson.

International Sweetheart Amy Jackson, a U of M alumna, also attended the workshop. She participated in the discussion groups and spoke to the entire workshop.

Trevor Beahm is chapter president.
