Freshman Honor Society Wins Bronze Award for Recruiting EffortsFor release: August 29, 2008 For press information, contact Gabrielle Maxey The University of Memphis chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta, an honor society for first-year college students, received a Bronze Award for exceptional recruitment efforts during the past academic year. The chapter added 101 new members at its induction ceremony in April, increasing its membership by 23 percent. “Alpha Lambda Delta is extremely excited to accept this award,” said Becky Shaffer, the current president. “Our increase in membership would not have been possible without the hard work of last year’s officers to publicize the organization and recruit strong students known for their academic excellence. We hope to continue our outstanding achievements this upcoming year.” The U of M chapter, established in 1958, also celebrated its 50th anniversary at the ceremony. To qualify for membership, students must have a minimum grade point average of 3.5 after 12 (but not more than 36) credit hours of coursework.
