Shannon Blanton Named Vice Provost for Undergraduate ProgramsFor release: August 25, 2008 For press information, contact Gabrielle Maxey Dr. Shannon Blanton has been promoted to vice provost for undergraduate programs at the University of Memphis. Blanton is a professor of political science at the U of M and has served as the department chair for the past five years.
“Dr. Blanton is an outstanding faculty member with an internationally recognized research record and an established reputation as a teacher,” said U of M Provost Ralph Faudree. “In addition, she has provided strong academic leadership as chair of the Political Science Department. She brings excellent credentials and impressive record to the vice provost office.” The vice provost serves on the Provost’s Council. She provides leadership for undergraduate programs, including curriculum planning, general education, the Center for International Programs and Services, the Honors Program and (Fresh Connections) Learning Communities. The vice provost also works closely with the provost on strategic planning, faculty development, and budgeting, especially as they relate to undergraduate programs. Blanton joined the U of M faculty in 1999.
