Chucalissa Will Debut Chickasaw Nation Exhibits September 5

Three exhibits about the Chickasaw Nation will debut Friday, Sept. 5, at the C.H. Nash Museum at Chucalissa.  A free public reception will be held beginning at 6 p.m., and Regina Berna, director of museums and historic sites for the Chickasaw Nation, will speak at 7 p.m.  Chucalissa is located at 1785 Indian Village Drive in southwest Memphis. 

In the main hall, a permanent exhibit provided by the Chickasaw Nation will feature traditional clothing and other cultural items. The main hall also will be home to permanent photo and text exhibits highlighting aspects of traditional and contemporary Chickasaw life.

Through October, the Museum Theatre will display a traveling exhibit that details the history of the Chickasaw people from antiquity to the present.

Operated by the University of Memphis, the C.H. Nash Museum at Chucalissa serves as a gateway to understanding the science of archaeology and the interpretation of Native American history. The museum exhibits illustrate the pre-history of the Mid-South as well as contemporary Southeastern Indian cultures.
