Teenage author Ayanna McFarland will discuss her novel Mama, Please! on Wednesday, December 17, at the University of Memphis. The program will begin at noon in Room 225 of the Ned R. McWherter Library. The event is free and open to the public.

McFarland, a 16-year-old student at Whitehaven High School, has been an avid writer of novels, short stories and poems since the third grade. Mama Please! tells the story of the war at home between mothers and daughters. McFarland depicts both sides of the story and how the lack of compromise, respect, and understanding can lead to problems. She wrote the book with the aim of encouraging better relationships between mothers and daughters.

McFarland also will sell and autograph copies of her book.

The program is sponsored by the University Libraries and Friends of the Libraries. For more information, call Tom Mendina at 901-678-4310 or Klaudia Kroboth at 901-678-2209.
