The 4th Annual Juried Art Education Exhibition, held in collaboration with the University
of Memphis' Department of Art and local K-12 teachers, runs March 5 through 27 at
Jones Hall Gallery. The opening reception is on Thursday, March 5 from 4 to 6 p.m.
Awards will be announced at 5 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Juror
for the 2009 exhibition is Chandler Pritchett, 2008 University of Memphis MFA graduate.
The theme of this year's exhibition, Growth, Change, and Transformation, is shared through the artists' visual interpretation and choice of media. Each participating
U of M Alumni (K-12 teachers) submitted one recent work of art along with two student
pieces.
The exhibition marks the beginning of Youth Art Month, an annual observance each March
that emphasizes the value of art education for all children and encourages support
for quality school art programs.
About the Juror
As an artist, Chandler Pritchett uses new media techniques to bridge the gap between
watercolor and animation. Born in 1982, she calls herself "a digital native, comfortable
sharing art on YouTube as well as in a museum or gallery." Since her first solo exhibition at the Carmichael
Gallery of the University of Alabama in 2003 she has had work included in numerous
shows from "Memphis to Miami."
Jones Hall Gallery is located in Jones Hall, room 109. Jones Hall is at the intersection
of Alumni and Desoto on the University of Memphis Campus. Admission is free. For more
information call (901) 678-2925.
