Educators and researchers from across the country will gather at the University of
Memphis for the National Association of Laboratory Schools (NALS) annual conference
April 1-3. The conference is hosted by the U of M’s Barbara K. Lipman Early Childhood
School and Research Institute and the U of M Campus School.
NALS is an international association of university-affiliated and laboratory schools
that are engaged in teacher training, curriculum development, research, professional
development, and educational experimentation. The Lipman School and Campus School
are members.
The national conference showcases the collaborations in teacher preparation and research
that is done at lab schools. This is the first time the University of Memphis has
hosted such a prestigious group.
Workshops and presentations will be held in the Fogelman Executive Center. Topics
will include decoding young children’s thought processes through the use of documentation;
supporting students with learning disabilities in a competitive mainstream environment;
supporting faculty research in a laboratory school setting; and designing and building
learning through a multi-age, project-based approach.
For more information on the conference, call Sandra Brown Turner, director of the
Lipman School, at 901-678-2120.
